    Thirteen! Again a “Focus Ring”…

The Focus Ring is a round-table discussion featuring podcasters from the Photocast Network. We try to do one every month and this was Number 13. Skype knew about the number and killed the connection for five times or so - but we managed in the end.

    I…

    Hy guys,
first of all - thanks a million for the great podcast you offer. I am a big fan of it.

Anyway - thought I would leave a quick comment about episode 13. I was trying to listen to it on my way back from work yesterday. I had to stop after about 15 min as the way this episode was recorded (with people all the way left and the others all the way right in the stereo panaorama) simply drove me nuts in the subway.

i.e John could only be heard on the left earpiece evereyone else was only on the right. Not just unplesant to listen to - you also have the noise of your suroundings on the other ear.

At home it is kinda ok to listen to.
    Thought I let you know.

    Greetings from Munich
keep up the good work - Looking forward to the next episode.

Doh - thanks for letting us know about this one. The split channels thing is a feautre of the way my Skype recorder saves things. The idea is to to be able to edit the two ends of a voice conversation separately. It’s not really meant to end up in the final show that and it’s my bad for not warning Paul (who did the editing) that it would be separated that way. Sorry Paul! Normally I pan all the voices back into the centre.

  4. Cooper Strange Says:

Could you not just save the MP3 in mono instead of stereo? That would not only make all sounds in one channel only, but would decrease the file size, right?

  5. photowalkthrough Says:

Indeed it would. It’s anathema, though, to any kind of audiophile to do that to the opening music, which is in stereo. But I agree that’s hardly enough reason for the whole show to be in stereo.

  6. intermayer.com Says:

    Focus Ring…

  7. Match Says:

The sound on Number 13 was really lame. Having people on separate channels is *NOT* stereo. (Most of us) have two ears working ears. In normal conversation we hear with both. How about remixing?

  8. Erika Says:

Hey guys, love the show. I haven’t been able to download show #13 through iTunes. I got it through iTunes in Thoughts on Photography, but would love to have it with all my other Focus Ring shows.
